Friends of Explorit TEAMS

• Store Team
  
  Responsible for the operation of Explorit's Gift Shop
  
        This team took over the operation of the store in January 2003 from long-time store manager Linda Geiger. The goals are to provide stock that is clearly related to science and nature, and to draw in customers.
  
  

  The Store Team has organized itself into several groups with overlapping responsibilities.

  • One small group (two or three Friends) is responsible for preparing orders and re-orders of stock;

  • another group (four to six Friends) is responsible for keeping the store tidy and the shelves full and well arranged;

  • a third group (eight to ten Friends) - and this group urgently needs more people - is responsible for clerking in the store for 2-hour shifts on weekends a couple of times a month.

  
  We always need people with some merchandizing experience, and those with interior decorating skills to help make the store a visually interesting place to shop.
  
  The ultimate goal is to increase the revenue from the store to benefit Explorit's programs and to make the Store a recognized place in Davis where one can buy interesting science-learning related gifts for childen and adults.



• Mailing Team
  
  Responsible for several bulk mailings each year
        The mailing team gets together four or five times a year to prepare large bulk mailings. These include the annual program brochure sent to thousands of area teachers, and newsletter mailings to Explorit members.


• Scholarship Team
  
  Responsible for finding special funds and helping to identify needy schools
        The scholarship team gets together once or twice a year. Members attempt to locate sources of funds - often from individuals - and may assist Explorit in identifying needy schools.


• Hospitality Team
  
  Prepares and sets up refreshments for occasional Board and Board/Staff events.
        The team members are mostly those who enjoy preparing tasty snacks.


• Library Team
  
  Responsible for organization and maintenance of the Libraries.
        There are two collections of books (aka libraries) at Explorit. One, consisting of browsing and children's science related books. The other, consisting of staff reference books for staff use. The team's job is to keep the libraries in order and maintain a system of 5x9 cards and compterized database.
