"Science By Design"

Creative Products designed and produced by the science center

The science center's first creative product under the "Science by Design" name was the 1984 "Chocolate Fantasy" Recipe Book that accompanied the Chocolate Fantasy Fundraiser of that year. It sold for $6. This was followed in 1986 by a small book, "On The Science Beat, that described family trip destinations with a science bent. It sold for $7.50 and was serialized in the San Francisco Examiner. During the next six years two newsprint tabloids and a health booklet were underwritten and distributed freely. The Dinosaur Examiner was distributed by the Davis Enterprise; and the 125,000 copies of the Supermarket Examiner was distributed throughout Northern California by Safeway. Two thousand copies of the 240 page "Book of Science Days", an everlasting diary, was self published in the year 2000 by Explorit with underwriting donations and loans from several supporters. The cost of printing was about $8,000 and over the years the sale of the book has raised over $40,000.
