Job description

Explorit Science Center is seeking an energetic, creative, individual with experience in financial tracking, program scheduling, and management of an office. The successful, preferred candidate will be highly organized, flexible, be an excellent writer, work well with others and share an interest in the goals of Explorit. Experience in budget development and implementation and grant writing is desirable.

We are seeking a person with proven ability and motivation to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team. This position is focused on scheduling and assuring smooth financial tracking of hands-on, inquiry-based science programs at our Mace Ranch Park- Davis venue, Woodland Regional Park venue and through Explorit's extensive travelling programs provided to schools throughout the region. 

Explorit Science Center is a non-profit organization founded in 1982 and located in Davis, California. With our mission "To ignite and foster curiosity about science and nature through inquiry and discovery", this hands-on science center serves people in a 17 county region. Explorit welcomes the general public and school groups at its facility, and also provides schools and communities with a selection of traveling programs. The primary responsibilities of this position are listed as a basic guide to the areas of expected performance with the understanding that such responsibilities may change from time to time depending on needs and circumstances of the organization and new programs.

1.     Promote effective personal communication with Explorit's team, the Board of Directors and with the public and school audiences. 

2.     Respond to all correspondence in a professional and timely manner.

3.     Track all income and expenses in QuickBooks and work collaboratively with our bookkeeper to provide regular reports to the Board of Directors.

4.     Track and provide reports on programs provided.

5.     Pay all bills and provide accurate and timely invoicing to our school groups and other customers.

6.     Understand all programs we offer and program rules and restrictions when working to schedule programs for schools and other organizations.

7.     Schedule programs and assign educators with careful consideration for travel time and fair distribution of work load.

8.     Be the first welcoming voice on the phone, email responses and in person interactions with our customers.

9.     Create and maintain a safe and well managed learning environment for program participants and educators.

10.   Receive and track all financial and item donations to Explorit.

11.   Assist with maintenance, repair, cleaning and upgrading of materials, signs and supplies for all programs according to maintenance logs.

12.   Coordinate work of volunteers, participate in, and assist with presentation of volunteer trainings and orientations as assigned.

13.   Interact with the general public, staff, Board members, and volunteers in a courteous, professional manner. Dress and communicate professionally.

14.   Submit regular reports and time sheets by assigned deadlines, undertake all duties and responsibilities in an efficient, timely manner and attend and participate in staff meetings and other meetings as required. 

15.   Attend available staff development workshops as appropriate.

 

Requirements and Reporting Responsibilities and Schedule:

1.     This position is full time and requires physical presence in the office Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.  Special program demands may require working occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the year. 

2.     Must be capable of lifting 40 lbs.

3.     Must agree to and provide normal, standard finger print/ background check.

4.     Under appropriate circumstances, certain tasks may be delegated to volunteers.

Compensation: $17-$21/hr; health benefits; accrued vacation and sick leave

Program Director Position Open and Recruiting

 

Explorit Science Center is seeking an energetic, creative individual with experience in providing interactive educational programs to preK-6th grade children to lead our education team. The preferred candidate will have formal training and educational background or direct experience in science and nature public outreach, as well as management experience. Experience in developing and implementing lesson plans (or equivalent) is essential. Experience in budget development and implementation, and grant writing is desirable. Teacher certification is desirable.

We are seeking a person with proven ability and motivation to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team. This position is focused on supervising the implementation and expansion of Explorit’s educational programing, as well as planning and implementation of hands-on, inquiry-based science programs at our Mace Ranch Park- Davis venue, Woodland Regional Park venue, and through Explorit's extensive travelling programs provided to schools throughout the region.

Duties:

Program Development and Implementation

  1. In collaboration with the Board of Directors, develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the organization’s goals and an annual budget and operating plan to support these goals.

2.    Plan and update educational programs for Anne Hance Exploration gallery in Davis, the Woodland nature park, summer science camps and on-site and traveling programs.

  1. Oversee the collection and maintenance of records on the clients of the program for statistical purposes according to the confidentiality/privacy policy of the organization.
  2. Serve as additional support and deliver programs for on-site and off-site programs.
  3. Develop and deliver all programs in a manner that is scientifically valid, pedagogically sound, and consistent with Explorit Science Center philosophy, style, and approach.

Supervision

1.    This position reports to and is supervised by the Board President.

2.    Supervise staff and oversee the coordination and administration of all aspects of ongoing educational programs including planning, organizing, staffing, and leading program activities according to Explorit policies and procedures and professional standards.

3.    Implement the human resources policies, procedures and practices of the organization, establish and implement a performance management process for all program staff.

4.    Promote effective personal communication with Explorit's team, the board of directors, and with the public and school audiences. 

5.    In collaboration with the Grant Committee, develop funding proposals for the organization to ensure the continuous delivery of services.

Requirements and Reporting Responsibilities and Schedule:

1.    Must hold a valid California driver's license.

2.    Must be capable of lifting 40 lbs.

3.    Must agree to and provide normal, standard fingerprint/background check.

4.    This position is ¾ time (30 hours per week) with the opportunity to increase to full time with additional funding. Program demands require working some evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the year. 

5.    Other duties as assigned.

6.    This position requires a Bachelor's Degree with a Master's Degree preferred.

Compensation: $20-25/hr. based upon experience; health benefits; accrued vacation and sick leave
