Question 1. What is the name, derived from the Latin word for 'warmth', given to the units of the energy content of foods ?

Answer:

Calorie

NOTE: Almost everyone who answered with the correct word neglected to use an upper case C. The term Calorie is properly used (instead of calorie) when referring to a FOOD Calorie which is a Kilo calorie - ie. it is 1,000 times larger than a calorie in any other scientific context. The answer calorie (lower case c) has been accepted as correct in the hopes that responders will check back to this page and learn about their error
