Question 2. Which Greek physician (ca. 460-377 BC) is known as the father of medicine because he introduced and practised a rational system of medicine as a science distinct from religion, philosophy or magic?

Answer: Hippocrates

Hippocrates introduced the practice of making careful observations of the symptoms of disease. He recognised that different diseases produce different symptoms and so was able to diagnose and make prognoses based on his observations.
