Explorit to Dance to the Beat of Their Own Drum, (and Bass)
Explorit is changing its tune for one night only! Typically, when you think of Explorit you think of a fun, family day filled with engaging science, learning and laughing. Tonight, Explorit turn it up a notch and go from the hands-on science experience for which they are well-known and take more of an "ears on" approach through the Science of Sound. The Science of Sound is a specially created musical workshop that will afford guests the opportunity to learn how math, science and technology all come together to create a smooth and appealing sound. The event is being hosted by a local music production company, Black Diamond Productions, providing guests the ability to experiment with industry leading mixing equipment. If you are looking for a perfect activity for your teenaged son or daughter, then the Science of Sound is it! Teens will most certainly find the "club style" event cool as they listen popular live music from [CJ]2 and get an opportunity to personally master the turntables. The event is from 6 p.m. to midnight. Tickets for this event will be $7 at the door. Proceeds will go to benefit Explorit. For information, e-mail bdp@gmail.com If you miss the Science of Sound or still have energy the next day, don't forget about Saturday afternoon's "Gold Bug, Gold Recycling" event. Anyone who is wondering what to do with those gaudy old gold chains and bracelets from decades past that you may have hidden in the back of a drawer, Explorit is giving you an opportunity to turn that old gold into new cash! Saturday, April 24th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, Explorit will open its doors to anyone interested in knowing much that old gold is worth. Peter Willson, the Director of Marketing and Development states, "This will be the third time we have had the gold recycling team here at Explorit. If the trend from the previous events hold true, people are sitting on jewelry that is worth a lot of cash." Willson adds, "I must admit, I thought it a bit humorous to see some of the older and more eclectic jewelry brought in, but there is nothing funny about the money these people walk out with. We have actually seen a person walk out of this event with about $1,500." The event is very simple. You allow the "Gold Bug" company to examine your jewelry. It can take up to twenty minutes, but when they are done, they make you an offer to buy the gold from you. No reservations are required, and there is no charge for the evaluation. ______________________________ Not able to make the trip to Explorit this weekend? Well Explorit hopes to get your blood flowing when Dr. Kathy Glatter, a Woodland Healthcare cardiologist presents a "Heart Healthy" workshop. This seminar will be held off site, at the Mori Seiki Lecture Hall, located at 3805 Faraday Avenue in Davis. This event will allow guests the opportunity to listen to Dr. Glatter explain the path to cardiovascular wellness. Guests will be able to examine actual sheep hearts and see the role that everyday choices make on the health of our most important organ. The event will take place May 18 and run from 6:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. Heart Healthy snacks like red wine and dark chocolate will be available for guests to snack on as they learn how best to protect themselves.
