Date: February 5, 2010 River Cats' Dinger to visit Explorit on Museum Day Explorit will join 24 other museums in the Sacramento area in offering free admission Saturday during the 12th Annual Sacramento Museum Day. The participants will all be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last guests admitted at 4 p.m. At Explorit, guests will have the opportunity to buy a slice of Woodstock's Pizza or a Jamba Juice before or after their museum exploration. The two businesses will set up their booths outside the center's main site, 2801 Second St., for outdoor picnicking. Dinger, the mascot of the Sacramento River Cats, will provide entertainment and photo opportunities from noon to 1:30 p.m. More information about Museum Day, including a list of participating museums, is available at http://www.sacmuseums.org or by calling the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau at (916) 808-7777. The event is presented by the Sacramento Association of Museums and supported by Umpqua Bank. Other sponsors include KVIE Public Television, Capital Public Radio, Outword magazine and Sacramento Regional Transit. _____________________ Spots are still available for Parents' Night Out, an event co-sponsored by Explorit and the Davis Diamonds on Feb. 12. Children ages 5-12 can enjoy pizza, gymnastics and science activities while parents celebrate an early Valentine's Day on their own. It will be held from 5-9 p.m. Reservations are required; they may be made by calling Davis Diamonds at (530) 750-3547. _____________________ What's biotechnology all about? Learn a little about the topic by viewing the biotech posters that will be on display from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Explorit's main site, 2801 Second St. The posters are entries in the Second Annual Biotech Expo Poster Competition co-sponsored by Explorit and BioTech SYSTEM, a Northern California consortium supporting biotechnology education in grades K-14. Students in grades 6-9 were invited to enter. They could select any biotech-related topic that falls within one of the contest focus areas: agricultural biotechnology, biofuels, biomanufacturing, biomedical applications, forensics, genomics and stem cells. An awards ceremony will be held during the afternoon.
