Explorit membership is extended to businesses
Almost 1,000 families and individuals enjoy the benefits of membership
at Explorit Science Center. Now Explorit is expanding the opportunity
for membership to businesses.
Companies of all sizes are invited to support Explorit’s science
education programs and, at the same time, provide a benefit to their
employees and their families.
Joining Explorit makes good sense for businesses, particularly those in
the sciences, engineering and high-tech fields, says Allison Cagley,
Explorit’s development director.
“Many employers know that insufficient science education in California’s
elementary schools hurts the region in the long run,” she says. “The
state’s schools rank second to last in national science testing. We need
to change that in order to prepare a workforce that’s literate in
science principles and critical thinking skills.”
Last year, more than 55,000 students and teachers participated in the
center’s school education programs, both on field trips to Explorit and
in the center’s traveling programs. In many of their elementary schools,
students receive little or no regular science instruction in the classroom.
In part through business memberships, Explorit hopes to reach many more
schools this year, particularly those in underserved areas.
Tax-deductible business memberships are offered at two levels: $500 and
$250 a year. Members receive the following benefits:
• An enhanced company image, through recognition in local media,
a prominent sign in Explorit’s museum, acknowledgment on Explorit’s Web
site (with a link to the member’s business) and a Recognition
Certificate to display at the member’s place of business.
• A Free Admission Day for employees and their families for
businesses at the $500 level. All members also receive free family
admission passes – 15 at the $500 level, 10 at the $250 level – that can
be used at anytime.
• Most important, the satisfaction of helping address a regional
crisis in science education.
