Date: March 12, 2010 Explorit's summer program will be a Wild Adventure!
Explorit Science Center has started collecting registrations for Summer Camp '10, a series of fun and engaging weeklong sessions that run from June 14 through Aug. 20. Each weeklong session provides campers with the chance to investigate, experiment and discover the many wonders of everyday science through hands-on activities. This year's Summer Camp guide showcases new and exciting sessions like, “Where the Wild Things…', 'See it, Touch it, Smell it', and 'Extreme Planet”. Check our guide to find out which sessions will include a new robotics component. The complete guide can be found on-line at www.explorit.org and contains full descriptions as well as Registration Forms. Summer Science Camp 2010 is sponsored in part by the ScholarShare College Savings Plan. ScholarShare is California's tax-advantaged 529 college savings plan. Learn more at www.scholarshare.com. Summer Camp highlights include: Three separate age groups are offered: One for children in preschool and entering kindergarten, one for children entering grades 1 and 2, and one for children entering grades 3 through 5. The minimum age for a camper is 4. Camps begin each morning at 8:30 a.m. Pre-school sessions end at 11 a.m. and meet three times per week - Monday, Wednesday and Friday. All the other campers meet daily until 12 p.m. Extended-day options are available to grades 1-5. The extended day program runs until 5 p.m., but parents can pick up their children at anytime. The extended day option allows the camper to enjoy a homemade sack lunch, a social period and then an afternoon full of activities. Afternoon play will allow for additional science education, but most of all will focus on good old fashion fun and games, like ripping down a 40ft-long slip-n-slide. Each weeklong session has a theme and each theme is offered for two-weeks. This year selections have been hand-selected by summer fun experts. Prices range from $52 for a week of preschool camp to $225 for an older age student when combined with the extended day option. Prices are reduced for members and memberships are still available. April 16 is the deadline for Explorit's random-drawing registration. All registration forms received by that date will be assigned a random number, and the campers will be placed in sessions in order of their number. Some children are wait-listed for the most popular camps; however, Explorit will open new sections if there is enough demand. Some scholarship assistance is available through Explorit's Ethel Sassenrath Fund. Donations to that fund are tax-deductible and those donations will go towards allowing a deserving child the opportunity to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity. To learn more about Explorit's camps, please log on to www.explorit.org or call 530.756.0191 and request a camp guide be mailed to you. The full camp guide will be distributed through the Davis Enterprise next week. Explorit Science Center is open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at 2801 Second St. in Davis. Admission is $4 general, free for ages 3 and under, as well as members and teachers with ID. For more information: http://www.explorit.org or (530) 756-0191.
