Author: Cristina Buss Spring Break Workshops explore science-art connection For patient science lovers who have waited out the cold winter, the prize is within reach. Explorit Science Center's Spring Break Workshops will soon be here, celebrating sunshine and bringing hands-on exploration to all. Next Monday through Friday (March 24-28), Explorit will offer the workshops to visitors of all ages. These drop-in workshops will run from 1:30-4 pm at the center's main site, 2801 Second St. in Davis. Admission is $1 plus museum admission ($4 general, free for age 3 and under). In the workshops, visitors will explore the connections between art and science by trying experiments or making a project to take home. Each day has a theme: • Monday: “Color My World” will investigate rainbows and light. • Tuesday: “Textures All Around” will include activities with sand art, Braille writing and texture rubbings. • Wednesday: “Pitter-Patter Patterns” will allow guests to build mosaics and learn how the brain processes puzzles. • Thursday: “The Illusions of Science” workshop will present phenakistoscopes, zoetropes and kaleidoscopes (oh my!). • Friday: “Be a Chemist” will include demonstrations with dry ice, experiments with chemical reactions and learning how to make slimy “Explor-ick.” Explorit staff members are looking forward to the workshops and hope to inspire both adults and children to get involved with science. “I'm always ecstatic to observe both parents and kids at play while simultaneously learning something new and exciting about their surroundings or themselves in terms of science,” says Explorit Educator Derek Woller. Explorit is selling Spring Workshop passes as a special discount to Explorit members planning to attend all five days of the Spring Break Workshops. A five-day workshop pass can be purchased for $3, giving members a discount of 40 percent. Sales of these Spring Workshop passes will continue until Wednesday. Visitors who plan to attend the workshops but are not members of Explorit are encouraged to take advantage of this bargain by inquiring about this and the other great benefits of Explorit membership. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Explorit Science Center has two exhibitions on display: “Move It!
