By: Tom Wickersham MAKE YOUR OWN LUNAR LANDING TOMORROW AT EXPLORIT
Thirty years ago, on July 20, the lunar module Eagle landed on the moon, thus allowing Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin the opportunity to explore in person Earth's natural satellite. Thirty years later, you'll have the chance to explore the moon when you attend Explorit Science Center's Astronomy Club meeting "The Moon: Models, Memories and Mysteries." Explorit's monthly Astronomy Club meetings are free and open to all. To attend, you don't need a telescope or even a science background. All you really need is curiosity. Astronomy Club meetings combine informal presentations, hands-on projects, information sharing and, weather permitting, plenty of star gazing. Tomorrow night, all eyes will be cast on the moon. Join host Dennis Smith as you discuss why the Earth and the moon are so different in appearance, have a chance to make a crater and view slides depicting the current Lunar Prospector mission. Based on this mission, NASA currently estimates there are 33 million tons of what on the moon? "The Moon: Models, Memories and Mysteries" takes place at Explorit Science Center tomorrow at 8:00 p.m.

Despite the warm weather, Explorit's Summer Science Classes have been a tremendous success. "My child came home enthused about science, learning and trying new ideas," writes one parent. Lots of kids and their parents have expressed their excitement for Explorit's Science Classes and their unique brand of hands-on learning. So far this summer kids have invented their own hover crafts, studied critters from spiders to worms, participated in water olympics and built their own volcanoes. Of course, not everyone's happy. "We only got in one class this summer," laments another parent. If your child didn't make it into Explorit's Science Classes this summer, stop by or call and have your name added to the mailing list. Next summer you'll be one of the first to receive the summer class listing.

Having success or problems with your garden this summer? Either way it might be helpful to know a bit about the soil in which your garden is rooted. Stop by Explorit's "How Does My Garden Grow?" exhibition to investigate the science behind many elements of gardening including soil. How is soil made? How is soil like a sponge? These are some of the questions visitors to Explorit will have the chance to investigate. You might even want to bring in a sample of your own soil and conduct some of the tests with that. How acidic is your soil? Soil, sun, water and seeds come together to make a garden grow. Come to Explorit to explore "How Does My Garden Grow?"
