Science investigations will be a breeze this weekend as Explorit Science Center and the Davis Art Center get together for the First Annual WindWorks Kite Festival Saturday from 11a.m.-4p.m. in Community Park.

Share the joy of flying with other kite lovers. The event will include kitemaking workshops by J.R. Toman, sport kite demonstrations, skydiving and the chance to meet guest artists. Bring your own kite and join the fun for this free event.

At the Festival, Explorit will set up tables of hands-on activities exploring scientific principles of kites, flight and wind.

Why fly? Explore the history of kites and find out where and for what purpose the first kites were built.

Harness the wind. Discover how nature uses wind to disperse seeds and help birds fly high.

Be a kite engineer! Investigate kite aerodynamics and build your own mini origami kite.

Explorit will also offer an excellent selection of wind-related gifts, toys and books for sale at the Kite Festival.

Call Explorit Science Center at 756-0191 for more information about tomorrow's activities.

Tonight an opening reception for the WindWorks art exhibition will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the Davis Art Center, located at 1919 F Street. Wind-related art--kites, banners and flags--from 20 internationally known artists will be on display. The exhibition will continue through June 15.

At Explorit Science Center tomorrow, Tierra Del Oro Brownie Girl Scouts will earn their Earth is Our Home Try-Its. People, animals and plants all share the earth and, for three hours, Brownies will investigate our planet and how to care for it.

Hands-on activities will teach the girls about animal habitats, geology, recycling, water and energy. They will discover that they can make important choices that do make a difference.

Investigate principles of science just by flushing. Science in the toilet is a new component to the current exhibition, "Your Home and the Science Inside It."

Beakman's Jok Church once remarked that all of science converges at the toilet. How does the toilet use levers, gravity and water pressure? Peek inside Explorit's toilet to discover the answers.

Thanks to the Kohler Company, Explorit has a toilet which lets visitors investigate how water gets into and out of the bowl.

Explorit thanks Alpha Phi Omega whose members continue to offer valuable service to Explorit. Last week several members held an indoor/outdoor Spring Cleaning work party. They thoroughly dusted Explorit's resource room, enthusiastically cleaned the store, diligently painted outside trash cans and energetically picked up large branches scattered by the last wind.

Members of Alpha Zeta have volunteered to help during Explorit's public hours this Saturday. Thank you!

Last Wednesday, weekend manager Brenda Phillips attended the Davis High School Career Fair. At the fair, students were presented with summer career and volunteer opportunities. Brenda recruited many students interested in volunteering at Explorit this summer. Explorit looks forward to meeting them and helping them gain new experiences in education and service.

Explorit thanks Anderson Consulting of Roseville for the recent contribution. Money received will underwrite next year's Science In Your World program for Lichen Elementary School in Citrus Heights.

Explorit thanks Wells Fargo for the generous grant to fund continued development of Science In Your World, Explorit's premier outreach program. Half of the money received from Wells Fargo will be used to develop new hands-on investigations in Math in a Bank.

Explorit thanks Alexander and Kelly Harcourt and Theodore Caldwell, whose generous personal cash donations are a significant component in Explorit's ability to make yearly budget goals. Explorit appreciates all levels of support from the community.
