Have you discovered that science is all around you? At Explorit, investigate the science in your own home. This is the final week for Explorit Science Center's current exhibition, "Your Home and the Science Inside It."
Now you can also use the "memo," a take home activity booklet, to supplement your visit and continue your science investigations at home. The latest memo, "Home, Scientific Home," answers thoughtful questions about scientific principles addressed in the exhibition.
How does a refrigerator keep food from going bad? At Explorit, use microscopes to zoom in on mold samples, then read in the "memo" how cool temperatures delay food spoilage.
When your family gets home, use simple items found in the kitchen to make chemical magic. This edition's recipes for discovery are "Glue and Ink from the Kitchen Sink" and "An Inky Tea Party."
"Your Home and the Science Inside It" runs through June 9. Explorit Science Center is located in east Davis at 3141 5th Street. Public hours are Saturday 11:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Sunday 1:00-4:30 p.m. and Tuesday-Friday 2:00-4:30 p.m. Call Explorit at 756-0191 for more information.
Explorit will be closed June 10-21 for installation of a new exhibition. "More Than Eye Can See," an exploration of the world of microscopes and magnifiers, will open Saturday, June 22.

Engineering, archetecture and construction have been an integral part of the current exhibition's structures station. This weekend, get hands-on experience investigating and building bridges. Learn how to build an arch bridge or design your own sturdy paper bridge.
Bridge building is one of the fun components of Explorit Science Center's off-site school program, Science in Your World. Throughout the summer, Explorit will offer the general public several opportunities to delve into Science In Your World experiments and explorations.

Are you one of many visitors who is fascinated by Winston the iguana? Explorit will soon display general information about green iguanas like Winston.
If you have observed Winston, you may have wondered about the greens he eats, his long claws or his sleepy demeanor. Do you know how lizards keep warm?
If you have questions about iguanas, send or bring them to Explorit. The Center will try to incorporate your questions and the answers in a display so that all visitors may learn from Winston.

Summer vacation classes are filling up quickly. Fortunately, several classes do have space. For 4th-6th graders, sign up for "Invent It, Solve It" and "Bubble Lab: Science of Soap, Light and Color," or for preschoolers, book "How Does Your Garden Grow?" or "Backyard Safari for Shapes and Colors." Call in your reservation using Visa or Mastercard to guarantee a place.

Explorit is looking for volunteers this summer. Volunteers will assist Explorit teachers in preparing and leading summer classes. If you enjoy working with children in education and can work weekday mornings, call Explorit.
Explorit also needs picnic tables. Explorit summer classes serve up to 30 girls and boys at a time--where will they sit? Explorit is looking for someone to donate or build picnic tables. If you can help, please call Explorit at 756-0191.

Have you been saving your Nugget receipts? Explorit can turn your receipts into cash. Nugget will donate 3% of purchase values to Explorit. Last year, Explorit received almost $300. Please bring in your receipts and deposit them in the box in the lobby by June 15.
