Article by Evelyn Buddenhagen Davis may be a ways from the beach, but that doesn't mean that you can't build a sand castle. Come join Explorit for a Sand Sculpting Contest this Saturday, September 16 from 11 - 4 p.m. We`ll take care of the sand and water. All you need to bring is your creative spirit and your own sculpting tools. Open to everyone with regular admission, there is no age limit to this contest and you need not be limited to sculpting castles only. Photos of all sand sculptures will be displayed at Explorit the week of September 18-24, and winners will be announced in the September 22 Explorit article in the Davis Enterprise. While at Explorit, don't forget to visit the "Secrets in Sand" exhibition and learn how Mother Nature forms her own sand sculptures. Sand has some amazing physical properties and hidden beauty. Who knows? You may find that these bits of knowledge help you with your own sculpture! This coming week will be the last chance to visit the exhibition, as "Secrets in Sand" closes on Sunday, Sept. 24. Admission is $3. Explorit members, teachers, and children under 4 are always admitted free. ---------- The 1995-96 "Cutting Edge of Science Lecture Series" of free public talks kicks off this Tuesday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m. with Dr. M.R.C.
