Explorit's Expanding!
What will you discover when you visit the new facility? The Changing Exhibition on the first floor is "Holes: An Opening into the Sciences." The second floor will not open to the public right away. Why? Explorit is expanding to meet growing demands for its programs and the programmatic expansion is happening in phases. Our hallmark series of changing exhibitions (now four per year) will be the first program to open at the new facility and will be housed on the first floor while a new main exhibition gallery of more long-term exhibits is being developed, prototyped and tested on the second floor. The Main Gallery team, with the acronym SCIENCE, is chaired by Board member Beth Post and has been working for nearly two years with Explorit staff, Board members, and members of the community, to create a detailed plan for a new hands-on exhibition that will serve the Center's varied audiences for the next five or more years. Motion has been identified as a unifying thread for the new exhibition. The choice was based on its potential, for being popular and relevant to diverse audiences, and for including a wide range of science disciplines. The world we live in is never still. Things spin, roll, flow and grow. They have velocity and momentum. They are large and small, living and not living. The Main Gallery team, with input from many people, is working hard on the creation of a "must visit," "motion commotion" exhibition the first phase of which will open in 2007. |
