Explorit's Expanding!

In March of 2006, owners of the Davis Indoor Sports Center announced plans to close their operations at 2801 Second Street. The five-year-old building is a spacious structure that includes a finished two-story south section and an in-line skating rink. The site is visible from westbound I-80 and is adjacent to a number of family-friendly recreational and performing arts facilities. The building itself is well designed for public use and available for immediate move-in.
Much of the work that has already gone into planning Explorit's exhibits and programs for the constructed building will be directly transferable to this existing space. Additionally, most of the $1.2 million raised so far can be applied to the purchase of the vacated south end of the Davis Indoor Sports Center. Our goal is to raise an additional $1.2 million to help pay off the short-term loan needed to acquire this space. |

After escrow closed in August, Explorit made some minor renovations to the south end of the Davis Indoor Sports Center, now known as Explorit Science Center. One renovation, for example, was to remove the existing café. We had exhibit galleries on the first floor, our signature science gift shop and a few other surprises when we opened in fall 2006.
