Main Public Facility
at 2801 2nd Street
Explorit's 2nd Street Branch, located less than one mile from the Mace Park Branch, is our main public facility used year-round for a variety of Explorit programs and events.
Changing Exhibitions
Explorit creates several unique, hands-on, public exhbitions each year in the Jonsson Gallery. They are visited by families and individuals from throughout the greater Sacramento region.
Discovery Room
Open for school classes in the morning and to the public on weekday afternoons and weekends, this specially designed room provides hands-on activities, observations and investigations.
Discovery Lessons
For visiting K–6 school classes and groups this program is based on the topic of the changing exhibition. Classes visit by appointment on weekday mornings from within and beyond the Sacramento area.
Wet Lab Activities
Outfitted with sinks and stainless steel tables, the Wet Lab provides for the fun, messy experiments designed to complement the Changing Exhibitions.
Grand Plaza
The south facing plaza is a gathering and activity area bounded by the "Standing Wave" sculpture.
Discovery Labs in the Second Floor Explorers Room
Each lab topic emphasizes experimentation skills by encouraging students to ask meaningful questions and conduct careful investigations.
The Explorit Store
The small gift shop near the building entrance carries science related toys and activities.
The Closer Look Nook
An area on the first floor within the Jonsson Gallery and funded by a local family is set aside for investigations using digital and Brock microscopes
Birthday Parties in the Second-Floor Explorers Room
Two party packages and a choice of hands-on science topics promise a special and fun party experience for any child ages 4-11.
Second-Floor Gumerlock Gallery
To open in 2008: Motion has been identified as a unifying thread for the Gumerlock Gallery exhibition. The choice was based on its potential, for being relevant to diverse audiences, and for including a wide range of science disciplines.
