vonHumboldt.png? Do you know who Alexander von Humboldt was? Well, born in Berlin in 1769 he became a naturalist explorer. Humboldt revolutionized the way we see the natural world. He found connections everywhere. ‘In this great chain of causes and effects,’ Humboldt said, ‘no single fact can be considered in isolation.’ He is admired and famous around the world but less well known by Americans. Don’t miss out on a fascinating, ‘Feathers In Art” feathery exhibition experience. Explorit Science Center’s “Feathers in Your World” project will create a display of the many ways feathers are integrated in our art and culture. Collaborating with local artists Explorit will showcase the magnificence of feathers and especially their use in art now and over the ages. The exhibition will be open for a month and will include ‘Art After Dark’ on Oct. 7th and ‘Second Friday Art About’ on October 14th, 2016.
 

 
 ➣ October 15, 22, 29, and November 5 - a four-workshop series

Conservation Club for 5th-8th graders:

  • Explorit is collaborating on a 4-workshop series with Think Elephants International, Inc. to expose students to the study of animal behavior, scientific research, and in-situ conservation, while focusing on the Asian elephant.  
  • The series of four workshops is scheduled for October 15 (9 AM-12 PM), October 22 (9 AM-12 PM), October 29 (9 AM-12 PM), and November 5 (5 PM-8 PM). 
  • Students are required to attend all four workshops. 
  • The registration fee for the workshop series is $130, with 25% of the proceeds going to Think Elephants International.

Two Spooky Science Nights 

6:30pm - 8:30pm at Explorit
Participants will use science to solve clues to unravel an over-arching sci-fi mystery. 
Newsflash: "It's loose! A team of visiting scientists have engineered a hybrid creature that has escaped! Help Explorit identify the scientist responsible for these horrific experiments gone wrong. Explore the crime scene, investigate the clues, and solve the mystery of the escaped creature. Only science sleuthing can save Davis now!"
Tickets are $10/person and will be available at the door.

 Andrea Wulf, Award Winning Author of "The Invention of Nature - Alexander von Humboldt's New World",

is coming to Davis to speak about her biography of Alexander Von Humboldt and to sign her book:
 

Time: 7:00pm 

Wulf travels Europe and the US to talk about this, her most recent book, that has received rave reviews for its scholarship, and its prose: "A pleasure to read ... excellent ...
