A whole new slate of science lectures are coming to Explorit’s Spring lecture series. Each year, Explorit invites some of our region’s top scientists to make presentations about their work The free talks provide information about new discoveries, topical subjects and emerging trends in research.

On Tuesday, February second we will welcome Dr. Michelle Hawkins of the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and Executive Director of the California Raptor Center. Her presentation “From Rehabilitation to Release: A Day at the California Raptor Center” will provide an inside look at the fascinating and life-saving work happening every day at the Raptor Center.

And on Thursday, March third Drs. Annaliese Franz and Bob Poppenga will provide balanced perspectives on “Blue-Green Algae: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.” Best known as pond scum, blue-green algae can have wide-ranging effects from water quality to pet health. Come find out what you need to know about this common pond dweller!

But the lecture series won’t stop there! In April we’ll hear from the Oil Wildlife Care Network, and in May we’ll explore Wildfires and Post-Fire Recovery. Then in June we’ll delve into the many issues surrounding Global Warming and climate change.

Explorit’s 'Cutting Edge' Lecture Series (CELS) is geared toward a general public audience. The free talks provide information about new discoveries, topical subjects and emerging trends in research. High school students often attend out of interest or even for extra school credit.

All talks are free and will be hosted at DMG Mori at 3805 Faraday Ave. in Davis at 7:00 p.m. Visit www.explorit.org for a link to a map to DMG Mori’s auditorium. More details about each presentation will be provided in the coming weeks so stay tuned on our website (www.explorit.org) or like our page on facebook (www.facebook.com/explorit.fb).
