Mark your calendars for Monday evening December 15 at 7pm for Explorit’s inaugural evening talk series focusing on “Our World in Water” in DMG-Mori’s beautiful conference auditorium at 3805 Faraday Ave., Davis.

Timothy Quinn’s talk, “Crisis and Opportunity in California Water Policy” will present an informative and thoughtful perspective on the current water crisis, implications of the recently passed water bond and the new ground water legislation recently signed by Governor Brown. As executive director of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), Dr. Quinn leads the largest water organization of its kind in the nation. He has worked on several key policy initiatives, including the Bay-Delta Conservation Plan now under development to protect species and provide regulatory assurance to water users. He also participated in negotiation of the 2002 Sacramento Valley Water Management Agreement, the 2000 CALFED Record of Decision, the 1995 Monterey Agreement, the 1994 Bay-Delta Accord, and a number of water transfer agreements.

Explorit welcomes the public to this free event with light refreshments provided as well. For further information see our website at or call Explorit at 530-756-0191.

Also coming up in December are two more weeks of Explorit’s winter workshops Christmas week and New Year’s week. From creating festive candles to science-themed holiday ornaments, there’s yuletide fun to be had by all.

On Monday, December 22 join us to make some creative candles and learn about the science of fire. Then on Tuesday, December 23 we’ll make a variety of ornaments with a nature or science twist like a beaded DNA double helix or leaf prints in clay.

Then we’ll be back on Friday, December 26 with our Breads of the World, exploring baking traditions from various cultures while learning about the science of leavening. Then New Year’s week we’ll explore snow, make candy and thrill our senses with Sensory Science.

Each workshop is $30 for members, $35 for non-members and open to children ages 5-12. Children ages 2-4 are welcome to join us for Sensory Science on Friday, January 2 with a parent. Call Explorit at 530-756-0191 to register.
