Explorit Workshops Add Science to the Season

Registration is open now for Explorit’s fall and winter workshops for the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. With all new topics and activities, these workshops will surely add some science fun to your holiday festivities!

On Monday, November 23 we’ll be kicking off the festivities with the Pirate Treasures workshop. We’ll discover how pirates used science to sail the high seas, from spyglasses to map making. Plus, we’ll dress and talk like pirates while hunting our treasure.

We’ll be having Fun with Feathers on Tuesday, November 24 with a workshop that’s for the birds. Feathers are an amazing tool that can help birds, and even people, to do all kinds of things.

Feathers make it possible for birds to fly, but that’s not all. Feathers can keep us warm, decorate clothing, jewelry and hats, and even become pens! Come discover many marvelous uses of feathers.

On Wednesday, November 25 we’ll be gathering a Found Harvest, learning about local ecology and our agricultural past while investigating the edible bounty to be had all around us. It’s a cornucopia of science fun!

After a quick break for Thanksgiving Day, we’ll be back on Friday, November 27 with Autumn Leaves, a workshop devoted to seasonal color. Why do leaves change color this time of year? And why only some of them, while others stay green? Explore these and other questions while engaging in some inspiring nature art.

Each workshop is 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 for children ages 5-12. Parents are welcome to attend with their children, or children may be dropped off and picked up by noon.

The cost for each workshop is $30 for Explorit members, $35 for non-members, and includes free admission to out museum Public Hours that afternoon until 5:00 p.m. Register one child for 4 days and get a $20 discount.

Enrollment is limited, so register today by calling Explorit at 530-756-0191. Registration is also open for our dynamic winter workshops in December. Visit www.explorit.org for all the details.
