What would you do with a paper bag full of cardboard tubes and boxes, plastic cups and trays, and assorted bottle caps? Recycle it or maybe throw it away?

But what could you do with it? In the hands of Explorit’s Summer Science campers, those materials will become the building blocks for the design solutions to all kinds of engineering problems.

Perhaps they will become a bridge spanning a distance of six feet. Or maybe they’ll be able to hold 20 pounds of pressure.

They could become a tower tall enough to touch the ceiling or a catapult to launch a pompom across the room. With a little masking tape and ingenuity, there’s no challenge Explorit’s campers can’t meet.

And that’s what Challenge Busters camp is all about--using science and engineering to answer questions and complete challenges. Identify a substance through chemical reactions. Build a device to finish a task. Add up the clues to solve a mystery.

Take on these and more fun explorations at Challenge Busters, one of Explorit’s Summer Science Camps for 2018. Register online at  http://www.explorit.org/programs/programs/summer-camp.

●      Join Explorit at The Sudwerk Dock store for Science Sunday on June 10, 2:00-6:00 p.m. for live animals, hands-on science and tasty craft beer. Plus, a percentage of draft sales will benefit science education.

●      Consider a donation to Explorit. Now more than ever, we need science education. Your donations help Explorit serve our community with exhibits, activities and educational outreach programs in 15 surrounding counties. Sponsor a program or summer camp scholarships by making a gift at explorit.org/support, or call us for more details.

●      Looking for that perfect gift?  Give the gift of science with a membership to Explorit and also gain free access to hundreds of science museums across the nation. For more information or to purchase or renew your membership online visit www.explorit.org/join/membership-levels or call Explorit at 530-756-0191. For a list of participating museums across the nation visit http://www.astc.org/passport/.

●      Be an informal science educator for a day! Explorit is looking for volunteers to accompany our educators into classrooms during the day and assist with presenting hands-on science to school children.
