Special to the Enterprise

Congratulations to Explorit’s 3rd and 4th grade Nature Bowl team who will be competing at the finals competition on May 12 at Sacramento State University! Since October, this intrepid team of junior ecologists and their mentors have been studying local flora and fauna, researching environmental issues that impact our local ecosystems and rehearsing presentations to prepare for this moment.

Nature Bowl is an annual, science-based educational program for 3rd - 6th graders fostering local ecological knowledge and conservation literacy. As a team, students rotate through stations where they explore the environment while building teamwork skills and sharpening their creative and critical thinking.

Coordinated by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife with many partner organizations, Nature Bowl has been going strong for over 30 years. Explorit’s team is currently in its fourth year, and is looking forward to going to the finals for the first time.

Explorit’s 5th and 6th grade team took second place at the regional competition at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area on April 16, and are still in the running for a place at the finals. Best of luck, Nature Bowlers! And an extra special thank you to coach Bob Fairclough for his dedication and commitment.

If your 3rd-6th grade student is interested in participating on Explorit’s team next year, or if you have a former Nature Bowler who has aged out of competition, but would like to mentor Explorit’s team, contact Explorit at
