Special to the Enterprise

Mark your calendars because November is going to be a busy month at Explorit Science Center.  From a beginning bonsai workshop to a Brownie badge day and more, there will be something for everyone this month.

Explorit’s first special event of November is a collaboration with Da Vinci high school science students for an evening of hands-on particle physics.  Explorit will be hosting an interactive exhibition of these students’ final projects on Friday, November 8 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

These students have been working in teams to design a hands-on, museum quality exhibit demonstrating the particle model of matter and applying it to a real-life phenomenon.  Come explore what they’ve come up with and celebrate their accomplishments.

Students will be on hand to discuss their work and will be acting as museum docents for this exhibition.  Admission to the Da Vinci exhibition is free, and donations are encouraged.  Meanwhile Explorit’s own Beautiful World:  Science and Art exhibition will be open as usual 3:00-6:00 p.m.; admission is $5.00.

Then on Sunday, November 10 at 11:00 a.m., back by popular demand is the Beginner Bonsai Workshop.  Our last bonsai workshop sold out and space is limited, so reserve your spot today at www.explorit.org/csp/bonsai or by calling Explorit at 756-0191.

This tropical indoor bonsai class is open to all ages 8 and up, and features the “Shohin” (less than 8 inches tall) size Schefflera plant from Hawaii.  Each participant will receive a bonsai to take home.  The cost for the workshop is $30.00 and includes all supplies (including tree) and refreshments, but bring any small pruning tools you may have.

Bonsai experts will be on hand to provide step-by-step instructions in bonsai care and answer any questions.  Get your start cultivating this rewarding life-long hobby with Explorit.

And if you’ve got a Brownie in your house looking to earn her Home Scientist badge, you won’t want to miss our Home Scientist Brownie Badge Day on Sunday, November 17, 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.  Girls will complete all requirements for the Home Scientist badge which they will receive at the end of the event, and will start the Brownie Quest Journey.

Girls can register as individuals or as a whole troop; each troop must be accompanied by at least one adult.  The cost is $14.00 per girl and $4.00 per adult, and includes badge, snack, and all program materials.

While exploring science and earning their badges, girls will experiment with static electricity, make ice cream, delve into chemistry and more!  Space is limited and the deadline to register is November 14.  You can register online at www.explorit.org/csp/brownie or by calling Explorit at 756-0191.
