Gratitude for a Day of Giving

This article appeared in the May 16, 2014 edition of the Davis Enterprise.

GiveLocalNow’s Big Day of Giving in the Sacramento area truly was a big day for Explorit Science Center!  Forty individual donors rose to the 24-hour challenge giving a total of $4,665 dollars to support hands-on science education in our community.

In total, 394 local nonprofits received a grand total of $3,019,913.04 from 18,915 donors, with matching funds from dozens of local companies and foundations.  Explorit is deeply grateful to GiveLocalNow for organizing the campaign and to everyone who gave generously to help us continue our mission to ignite and foster curiosity about science and nature through inquiry and discovery.  Way to give where your heart is, everyone!

But just because the big day has come and gone, doesn’t mean you don’t still have plenty of opportunities to give.  One great way to give to Explorit anytime is to consider becoming a member.

With membership packages for large families, grandparents, individuals and more, there’s a membership option for everyone, and the benefits can’t be beat.  Members receive free admission to Explorit’s public hours and discounts on store merchandise and vacation camp fees, plus free or discounted admission to over 300 other science and technology centers worldwide through the Association of Science and Technology Centers passport program.  You can see a full list of participating museums here: www.astc.org/members/passlist.htm.

When you purchase a membership at Explorit Science Center your membership fees contribute to our ongoing operations to continue providing top-notch educational and fun science experience for all ages.  Learn more about or apply for membership at www.explorit.org/join.  Or if you’ve been a member in the past and would like to renew or check on your current status, call our office at 530-756-0191.

Own a local business?  Businesses can become Explorit members too through our Business Membership program.  With perks for employees and prominent posting of your business’s name at our museum, there are lots of ways to partner with Explorit and serve your local community through Business Membership.  Learn more about the possibilities at www.explorit.org/join/business-memberships.

As any educator will tell you, it takes a lot of supplies to keep providing hands-on experiences over and over again.  One way you can give to Explorit is to fulfill a wish on our supply wishlist, which you can see at www.explorit.org/support/wish-list.  Maybe you’ve got an extra something lying around that we can put to good use.  Remember Explorit as you do your spring cleaning this year!

Giving of your time is another great way to support us.  We’re always looking for volunteers ages 12 and up to help with a variety of tasks.  Fill out the online application or email us at explorit@explorit.org for more information.

And of course traditional financial contributions are always welcome.  Thanks to everyone for all the ways you give that help keep the science coming!
