Join us for a Exhibit Grand Opening

Join Explorit on Sunday, September 29, as we unveil our next exhibit in our Anne Hance Exploration Gallery.  “Make Waves” with Light & Sound and explore the similarities and difference between the two.  We are excited to show off our new activities, and how we’ve adapted a few guest favorites.

Some of the new ways guests can explore with light will be with our new light table.  Play with tiles of varying colors and sizes to create a colorful picture.  Guests can also turn a window into a mirror by manipulating light with our two-way mirror activity.  Experiment with sounds by playing tubes of varying sizes and getting different tones from them.

We have kept some old favorites but have put a new twist on them.  Play with shadows with our vertical wind tunnel.  Browse the periodic table built by one of volunteer docents to discover what colors elements can appear.  Use our microscopes to get a closer look at objects and how they look different up close versus normally.  We continue to encourage guests to use their imagination and build with recycled materials at our Challenge Center.  And for our littlest explorers, our Discovery Den will continue to have age appropriate toys to play and explore with.  The Discovery Den will continue to house our amphibian terrarium as well as the fish tank that contains the tetra fish that glow under a UV light.

Our Animal Alcove has moved!  We moved our animals to a new area so guests can view them better, and they may get some natural light in the process.  Our new Animal Alcove is located at the front of the museum, just a right turn from the main entrance.  Guests will continue to see our varying cockroaches, as well as Spike our bearded dragon, and Tiger and Blizzard our two blue-tonged skinks.  New to the area will be our two California king snakes, Lizzie and Felix, our tarantula and scorpion, as well as a variety of preserved animals donated to us for science education.

For our Grand Opening we will also feature Citrus Circuits Robotics Team and the Bohart Museum of Entomology for our guests to interact with.  Donor and Member exclusive viewing from 12-1pm, with the general public welcome from 1-5pm.  Reduced price for members with valid Membership card.  Mark your calendars, we hope to see many of you on Sunday for our Grand Opening of Light & Sound!
