More summer science camps open now!

This article appeared in the May 10, 2013 edition of the Davis Enterprise.

Special to the Enterprise

Are you still looking for something engaging, fun, and safe for your little ones to do this summer?  Explorit still has plenty of spaces in our Summer Science Camps for children ages 4 through 11 years old.

"Cooking Chemist" currently has 10 spots available for ages 4 and 5 on July 15, 17, and 19. This camp gives them the opportunity to play and experiment with their food, create gooey concoctions, learn where food comes from and what's healthy and what's not.

3rd through 5th graders can become "Marvelous Meteorologists” July 8 - 12th as they create whirling vortex tornado tubes and whip up blowing snow machines.  Design and use the tools of the meteorologist’s trade such as rain gauges and thermometers and see if you can predict the weather!

Plus, there are now new sections of morning camps for 1st - 2nd grade.  Due to overwhelming demand for these camps we have opened additional morning sections of "Davis Detectives", "Weather Wise", "Edible Experiments", "Investigating the Final Frontier" and "Wild Wonders: Animals Near and Far".

Your budding forensic scientist can practice solving a variety of mysteries in “Davis Detectives” by analyzing clues from fingerprints to animal tracks and more.  “Weather Wise” campers will investigate a variety of meteorological phenomena from hurricanes to blizzards, learning about the natural forces that bring them about.

From food that goes fizz to goo you can chew, there’ll be no end to the fun in “Edible Experiments.”  This camp will explore the chemistry that makes some food healthy for us, some food not so healthy, and all of it fun to play with.

Find out what’s out there by “Investigating the Final Frontier.”  What are the stars made of?  Where does the moon get its light?  We’ll discover the answers to these and other extraterrestrial questions in this camp that’s out of this world.

Or you can have an adventure that’s a little bit closer to home in “Wild Wonders:  Animals Near and Far.”  This camp will investigate animals from the rainforests to the desert to our own backyards.  We’ll see how animals survive and thrive in their different habitats and how they can help people.

With such a wide variety of exciting, hands-on science themes to choose from, Summer Science Camp at Explorit is going to be a blast.  These and many more camps still have spots available, but they will fill fast so sign up today!  For a full list of all camp openings and to register visit www.explorit.org/programs/summer-camp.
