Naturalist Humboldt Celebrated at Explorit Event

This article appeared in the October 28, 2016 edition of the Davis Enterprise.

Special to the Enterprise

Have you ever wondered where California’s Humboldt county got its name? Or who invented the infographic? Or perhaps you’re most curious about how you can help provide STEM education to over 30,000 children in a single year.

You can get answers to each of these questions and many more at Explorit’s major fall fundraiser tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Theater (203 E. 14th St. in Davis). Internationally acclaimed author Andrea Wulf will speak about her book The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt’s New World.

Wulf’s research shines new light on Humboldt as an amazing pioneer of naturalism who inspired a wide range of scientists, politicians and poets from Charles Darwin and Thomas Jefferson to John Muir and Henry David Thoreau. This ground-breaking book is now available at The Avid Reader.

Tickets are still available at with special offers for K-12 educators and new memberships plus ticket. Your attendance at this special literary/science event supports Explorit's 'STEM' science programs that travel throughout the region to elementary school classrooms and auditoriums serving more than 30,000 children a year.
