Save Your Recyclables for Explorit

Explorit visitors build with recycled materials.

Special to the Enterprise

It’s that time of year again, time for Summer Science Camp! As the weather heats up the young scientists come out to Explorit for another stunning summer of inquiry and discovery.

But these intrepid campers need your help. You can help Explorit host amazing camps this year by collecting and donating recyclable supplies that campers will transform into awesome projects.

We will repurpose large plastic juice bottles into bird feeders, metal or plastic coffee cans into compost bins and musical drums, and shoe boxes into model homes with innovative energy sources like solar and wind power. Large, one gallon jars in either glass or plastic will become homes for ant colonies, and pie tins or other shallow containers will become watering holes for bees and butterflies.

We can also use: small cardboard boxes (from cereal, crackers or other foods), magazine pictures of food, foam wedges, toilet paper and paper towel rolls, pringles cans, tennis ball containers, plastic water bottles with caps, small green fruit baskets, wire clothes hangers, packing peanuts, egg cartons, clean milk cartons, 2 liter soda bottles, old CDs, water bottle push up caps, large enclosed containers like for rotisserie chicken, large plastic bottles with wide mouths, old fence boards or small pieces of plywood, small paper bags, small plastic containers, jar lids, pvc pipe and fabric scraps.

Please make sure that all donated items are thoroughly clean and ready for use. You can drop off donations to Explorit’s office at 3141 5th St. in Davis during our regular business hours 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Thanks for your help in supporting Summer Science Camp!
