Special to the Enterprise

Explorit is thrilled to announce its Summer Science Camp classes for 2012.  Registration begins Wednesday, March 28 at 9:00 a.m. online at  Summer Science Camp offers dynamic scientific explorations for students age 4 to entering 5th grade in the fall.

Campers and their families have five hands-on themes to choose from this year.  Roll up your sleeves and prepare to get a bit messy in the Be a Goo-ologist; Slimy, Grimy Science and Be a Slimy Sleuth camps.  Dissections, making slime and microscope investigations await!

The Sporty Science, Science of Sports and Athletic Investigations camps explore the science foundations of some of our favorite games.  Reveal how the laws of motion explain the trajectory of a baseball or discover what happens inside your body when you run, jump and kick.

In the California Safari, California Explorations and Golden State Science camps you can dig into local geology and wildlife.  From the sandy coastline to underground caves, from tiny spiders to giant oak trees, investigate the amazing natural resources California has to offer.

Or get revved up in the Conserve your Energy, Get Energized and Energetic Investigations camps.  Can the sun keep your house cool?  Can you get power from a lemon?  Join us in finding out!

Explore the animal kingdom in the A is for Animal, Incredible Critters and Zoom into Zoology camps.  Discover amazing adaptations that help different animals survive in their unique habitats.

Students entering 1st through 5th grades in the fall have the option of staying for an additional afternoon camp with even more hands-on science fun.  Take on a building challenge while exploring structural engineering.  Or get a taste of the chemistry happening in your kitchen with food science.  And every Friday afternoon is water day!

Summer Science Camp has a variety of volunteer opportunities for everyone 12 and up.    You can experience summertime science explorations as a volunteer teaching assistant.

For more information about volunteering call us at (530) 756-0191.  Volunteers must be at least 12 years old by June 11, 2012.

A full summer camp brochure with all the details is available for download at  As always, Explorit members receive a discount on camp fees, so sign up for membership today or when you register for camp.

Summer Science Camp is a great way to meet friends and have fun investigating the world around us.  Don’t miss it!  Like us on Facebook at to tell us which camp you’re most looking forward to.
