If you’ve got a Brownie Girl Scout at home, you won’t want to miss Explorit’s Home Scientist Brownie Badge Day on Sunday, March 2, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  While exploring science, participating girls will fulfill all requirements to earn the Home Scientist badge and will begin the Brownie Quest Journey.

Science is all around you. Come to Home Scientist Badge Day and find out where it’s been hiding in your own home. Learn about the chemistry in your kitchen, why you might get shocked walking across carpet, and unfold the mystery of why something sinks or floats. Become a scientist for the day as you conduct fun hands-on experiments.

From making ice cream to exploring bubbles and experimenting with static electricity, there will be much to do and no end to the fun.  The event is open to all Brownie Girl Scouts.  Girls can register as individuals or as whole troops.  Girls must be accompanied by at least one adult. Please no drop-offs.

The cost is $15 per girl and $5 per accompanying adult and includes the badge, a snack and all program materials.   Space is limited and the deadline to register is February 28th.  You can register online at  For more information contact Explorit at 530-756-0191 or email Sarah at

But science isn’t just for Brownies!  Kicking off in March are our brand-new Afternoon Science Adventures for students Kindergarten through 6th grade.  Join us for one or more of these exciting, month-long adventures!  These project-based workshops will meet every Wednesday afternoon (except March 26) from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Explorit.

For Kindergarten through 2nd-grade students we’ll be offering Plantacular! in March. From the secrets of soil to the nutrients of light, explore with us what it takes for plants to grow and thrive in different conditions.

And in April it’ll be all about the animal kingdom with Animal Antics. Join us as we observe and explore the behaviors of local wildlife and discover how our scaled, feathered and furry neighbors eat, sleep and get around.

But we won’t leave out our friends in 3rd-6th grades!  In March they’ll find out Why Time Flies. Take a trip through time with us as we investigate how we measure the days of our lives and our earth.

And in April will explore the effects of drought in Thirsty Thistles.  Get a plant’s-eye view of ground water, drought, and the weather in this exploration of how we need, how we get and how we use one of our most important resources—water!

Each camp features ongoing projects and plenty of hands-on science fun to ignite your curiosity!  March camps are $185 for members, $240 for nonmembers.  April camps are $240 for members, $290 for nonmembers.

Registration costs include all supplies and a snack each day.  Registration is open now, but spots are limited.  Call Explorit at 530-756-0191 to reserve your spot today!
