Special to the Enterprise

2017 was a landmark year in science. In January, a new species of gibbon, the Hoolock tianxing, was discovered in China. SpaceX successfully launched ten satellites into orbit, continuing the human quest into space.

Researchers at Boston Children’s Hospital successfully grew human blood stem cells in a lab, and physicists at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider reported detection of a new hadron particle. And on April 22, Earth Day, thousands of people attended the March for Science in hundreds of cities around the world, expressing a commitment to research and education.

Meanwhile at Explorit Science Center we hosted nearly 300 visitors at our Spooky Science event, coached a dedicated and fun-loving Nature Bowl team and provided hands-on science education to thousands of students at scores of schools in more than a dozen northern California counties. Plus, we unveiled a brand-new addition to our suite of traveling programs: Green World, Healthy People, a Family Science Night emphasizing the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health.

2018 may bring even greater accomplishments in science: a break-through in cancer treatment, solutions to the challenges of climate change or stunning new technological innovations.

And 2018 will hold great things for Explorit Science Center as well. Come check out our new Feathers in Your World exhibition in our newly christened Anne Hance Exploration Gallery.

Stay tuned to learn all about the amazing science events we have planned for the coming year. From all of us at Explorit Science Center, happy 2018!
