Special to the Enterprise

Duck Days, that annual celebration of waterfowl and their environs, is almost upon us, and once again Explorit Science Center will be on hand to share in the science fun. Join us at the Yolo Basin Foundation on Saturday, February 25 for some hands-on feather explorations in their mural trailer, as well as all the Duck Days festivities.

Duck Days is an outdoor community festival celebrating wetlands and wildlife hosted by the Yolo Basin Foundation at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters (45211 Co Rd 32B, Davis). The day-long event includes on-site activities and workshops such as meeting baby ducklings or exploring wildlife photography, as well as off-site field trips such as hikes and birding expeditions.

Try your hand at trout fishing or discover the nocturnal world of bats. Discover the owls along your daily walk or take a canoe trip on Lake Solano. There’s a field trip adventure for every interest!

Explorit Science Center will host a workshop in the mural trailer from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with drop-in interactive activities on the adaptations and functions of feathers. Discover the variety of feathers one bird can have for different functions, and explore how people can use feathers in technology and art.

Duck Days kicks off with a reception at the Davis Art Center on Friday, February 24 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Then Saturday’s activities begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters and continue throughout the day. A full schedule is available at

Tickets for Duck Days are $20/adult (children 17 and under are free) and are available at At the time of registration, you may also purchase tickets for up to two off-site field trips for an additional $10 per trip.

Don’t miss this chance to learn more about some of favorite feathered friends and the wetlands they call home!
