Special to the Enterprise

Spring has sprung at Explorit!  Our native plant garden is beginning to wake up and bloom, and our local pollinators are taking notice.

Out in our backyard we have several California native plants, such as Elderberry and California poppies that are blooming and attracting local bees and other pollinators.  We also have some native milkweed starting to shoot up out of the ground, and we hope it will attract migratory butterflies in coming years.

With several of our plants in bloom we are starting to notice our local pollinators more as well.  We have a variety of native insects, but the ones we see most often are the Mason bee or the Yellow-faced bumble bee.  We have set up a few Mason bee boxes in our backyard to house the Mason bees, as well as a watering station for our pollinator friends and area birds.

We continue to have our birdfeeders up in the backyard.  They attract several species of birds such as Anna’s Hummingbirds, House Finches, California Scrub-Jay, and more!

Come on by during our public hours and view birds and pollinators from inside, or take a stroll outside to check out of garden and get a closer look at the plants we have growing.  We hope to add more plants as time goes on and keep our local pollinators happy.
