Special to the Enterprise

Explorit Science Center is revving up for another stupendous season of Summer Science Camp and you can help us make sure we have everything we need for our intrepid campers. Junior scientists need lots of supplies for their experiments and you can help stock us up by saving recyclable items at home and dropping them off at Explorit.

Your empty cereal boxes or other cardboard containers could become tactile boxes so aspiring astronauts can learn how to manipulate tools while wearing protective space gear. Or they could become the bases for volcanoes or robotic arms.

Large coffee cans will help us simulate moon boots for an extraterrestrial exploration. Two-liter bottles will help us build jet packs to fuel our adventure through an intergalactic obstacle course.

And no interstellar voyage would be complete without an alien sighting. Help us make a souvenir of our space travels by saving bottle caps and clear domed lids from iced drinks for building alien space crafts.

Toilet paper and paper towel tubes have almost infinite uses. They can be rockets, telescopes, musical instruments and much more.

Plus, Explorit can always use plastic bottles and containers such as yogurt cups, berry baskets, egg cartons and plastic food trays. Instead of recycling them, bring any clean household items to Explorit during our regular business hours (9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays) and donate them to the creative experiences of future scientists.

Explorit’s coming events:

We have a limited supply of gloves and tools, so please bring your own gloves and tools if possible. Wheelbarrows, rakes, brooms, hedge shears and shovels would also be helpful. Please email Alfreda at to RSVP your availability or contact me at (530) 756-0191 for more information. Thank you so much for your support.

●      Save the date of Sunday, August 27 for Explorit’s annual end of summer Final Blast celebration, a full day of fun for the whole community.

●      Explorit’s Exploration Gallery is open to the public every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, 1:00-5:00 p.m. and every Friday, 3:00-6:00 p.m.  Admission is $5.00 per person; Explorit members, teachers and children 2 and under are free. Come check out the new Nano Mini Exhibition.
