Summer hands-on Science for Preschoolers

Special to the Enterprise

There are few things in their everyday surroundings that preschoolers don’t want to get their hands on.  Explorit Science Center’s preschool programs embrace this natural curiosity, allowing preschoolers to try hands-on activities to engage their minds in scientific discovery.

Explorit’s popular Summer Science Camp is a great way for local preschoolers and Kindergarteners (ages 4 to 5 years old) to get their minds on some hands-on science.  The camps will feature five different topics with fun activities adapted to the curious and active minds of budding preschool scientists.

The programs are fun, intuitive, and bring relevant science topics to young children. Summer Science Camp is an excellent opportunity for preschoolers to explore and make sense of the world around them.

Preschoolers with a gift for the messy may enjoy the “Be a Goo-ologist” camp where they can make slime and find out what’s in dirt.  “Sporty Science” will allow preschoolers to get their game on while discovering the science of movement.

Preschoolers have a natural curiosity and investigative nature.  The “California Safari” camp will put those qualities to use as students explore the plant and animal life of the golden state.

In “Conserve your Energy” preschoolers will discover all the different forces that make things work.  From electricity to chemistry and more, we’ll experiment with energy.

“A is for Animal” is for all the young zoologists.  We’ll investigate habitats, ecosystems, and even fossils!

With the reasonable rates of just $72 for members and $82 for non-members per three-day session, preschool Summer Science Camps are an affordable and fun way to enrich your child’s early education.

Explorit offers summer camp opportunities for children from 4 years of age through to children entering 5th grade in the fall.  For more information about Explorit’s Summer Camp program and to register on-line go to

Explorit is also seeking volunteers to assist with Summer Science Camp.  From assisting in the classroom, to preparing snacks, to forming inspiring, personal connections with campers, our volunteers help make Summer Science Camp a memorable experience.

So if you are at least 12 years old and like science or want to find out what it’s all about, you can apply to volunteer with Explorit’s Summer Science Camp at  Adults are welcome to volunteer too!
