Summer Science Fun at Explorit

A camp t-shirt in the tie dye process

Special to the Enterprise

Explorit’s amazing Summer Science Camps start next week and educators and volunteers alike are busily preparing some fantastic hands-on experiences for campers! We start with camps on Energy for first- and second-graders and camps on environmental stewardship for third- through fifth-graders.

In Wild, Wavy World, our energy camp, campers will explore solar energy and its many uses from building and cooking in a solar oven to powering a circuit to light a light bulb. We’ll also explore the wave nature of light and sound, measuring frequency and channeling the energy of their movement to power different devices.

In Stewardship Earth, campers will investigate the water cycle and compost, meet some composting animals and discover numerous ways to use and reuse recyclable items to cut down on waste. This planet is a precious resource and we’ll see if we can come up with some innovative ways to preserve and protect it!

Both of these, and all of our other camp topics, will be available for all age levels during different weeks throughout the summer. You can see a full listing of topics and offerings for all ages at

And for students in first- through fifth-grade we also have an afternoon camp option that will delve into a different science topic each day! Take on Forensic Science on Mondays to solve different mysteries. Think critically about the clues, and see if you can catch the culprit!

Or learn how to get around on Tuesdays with a camp on Navigation and Orienteering. We’ll explore our surroundings and see if we can find the hidden treasure, or hide one for someone else!

We’ll be getting our hands dirty on Wednesdays with Paleontology and Archaeology. Dig for fossils, reconstruct ancient pottery, and discover how we can use science to learn about the past.

Thursdays are all about engineering and design. What can you build? How high? How strong? Can you pass the design challenge?

Then be ready to get wet with Water Day on Fridays. We’ll explore the properties of water and its many uses from ecosystems to art. Plus, we’ll spend some time splashing and playing in pools and a slip ‘n slide!

Some spaces are still available and registration is open now! Every camper will also have an opportunity to tie dye their camp shirt. Don’t miss out on all the summer science fun!
