Special to the Enterprise

California Duck Days is coming to the Yolo Basin Foundation this weekend and you can join Explorit in celebrating our state’s amazing waterfowl and the wonders of their feathers. Join the kick-off reception tonight at the Davis Arts Center, then make a day of it on Saturday at the Yolo Basin Foundation where you can join Explorit and over 20 other environmental education organizations to explore and celebrate our ecology.

On Friday, February 19, the Davis Arts Center (1919 F Street) will host a free public reception showcasing this year’s California Junior Duck stamp winners, plus some amazing wildlife art. Plus, there will be a raffle, food and entertainment from 5:30-7:30.

Then on Saturday, February 20, head out to the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters at 45211 County Road 32B (Chiles Road) for an all-day festival. Check out the Duck Days Exhibit Hall featuring interactive displays from local environmental organizations and the crowd-pleasing Mallard ducklings, as well as live raptors, and activities for kids.

Or drop in to a variety of workshops, including one by Explorit Science Center on the many types and functions of feathers from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Try a few hands-on activities to explore the properties of different feathers and discover how different birds are adapted to different habitats and conditions. From flight to keeping warm, feathers are amazing tools that help birds survive and thrive, as well as inspiring technology that can improve our lives as well.

Participation in the Explorit workshop, and several others on-site at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters is included in your Duck Days ticket price. You can see a full list of workshops at http://yolobasin.org/california-duck-days/cdd-activities-workshops/.

There will also be many tours and off-site excursions to choose from for an additional fee such as a rice farming tour or falconry demonstration. You can see a full list of these field trips at http://yolobasin.org/california-duck-days/cdd-fieldtrips/.

Get your tickets for Duck Days online at http://yolobasin.org/california-duck-days/ and be sure to stop by Explorit’s workshop “Fun with Feather Function” in the conference room on Saturday morning.
