Special to the Enterprise

Have you heard about Explorit Science Center’s school programs?  We have a variety of science themed programs for students ranging from PreK to 6th grade.  All our programs align with NGSS standards and are full of hands-on activities for every age to enjoy science learning.  Explorit offers programs at both our site, as well as programs at area schools in 18 counties.

Our most popular program is our Classroom Adventure.  This is program where Explorit comes to your school and sets up activities from one of our four science topics in your classroom.  Program sessions are one hour in length and can accommodate up to 40 students per session, with up to 4 sessions available on a single day of the same topic.  Our topics are Amazing Animals, where you will learn about animals, their habitats, and how they’ve adapted to live in those habitats, as well as meeting some of Explorit live animals; Earth’s Features introduces students to geology, minerals, and some of the processes that have shaped our planet; Ecosystems and Biomes demonstrates what makes each biome unique and the factors that come into play for different ecosystems; Simple Machines help people to do work, this program shows students how a simple tool can do a big job.

Another program that travels to area schools is our Family Science Night.  Explorit transforms your multipurpose room into an interactive science exhibit for the whole family.  This program is an hour and a half in length, and typically occurs in the evenings.  We have two topics: Science in Your World brings a variety of activities and topics from multiple areas of science, and Green World Healthy People shows the interconnections of humans, animals, and the environment.

Explorit also offers three different programs at our site in Davis for schools to come visit us.  Our Nature Safari’s take students to explore the Mace Ranch Park and learn about the plant and animal life that calls it home.  Our Discovery Lessons is an educator guided exploration of the current exhibition in our “Anne Hance Exploration Gallery”, exhibits change yearly in the fall, 2019-2020 school year is “Making Waves with Light & Sound”.  Our Inquiry Labs are designed for students to solve challenges in small groups, stimulating curiosity and problem-solving skills, and emphasizing experimentation and collaboration with other.  We have four Inquiry Lab topics to choose from: Electricity includes making simple and complex circuits, as well as exploring magnets and magnetism; Energy teaches students about potential and kinetic energy and how to use them to solve the program’s challenges; Fossil Forensics turns students into detectives as they use fossils to interpret the past; States of Matter lets students explore solids and liquids, as well as a matter that is a bit of both.  All programs at Explorit’s site are 75 minutes in length and can accommodate 30-35 students per session.
