Two of Davis’s favorite things, bikes and backyard agriculture, meld once again in the 8th annual Tour de Cluck, an educational bike tour of Davis’s backyard chicken coops benefiting the Davis Farm to School Programs. The Davis Farm to School Programs support agricultural education  through farm field trips for second-graders, school gardens, fresh local produce in school lunches and recycling and composting programs.

This year, the Tour de Cluck is expanding its self-guided tour of neighborhood chicken coops to include backyard beekeeping, rain collection systems and much more! The Tour will begin at Central Park, wend its way through many of the creative homesteading projects to be found around Davis and end at Cesar Chavez Elementary School in time to attend their Fiesta in celebration of the history and diversity of Latin cultures.

Plus, to help celebrate Tour de Cluck’s spirit of sustainability, Explorit Science Center will participate as a Crower on the Green! Crowers on the Green are businesses and organizations that partner with Tour de Cluck to provide participants with education, entertainment and free samples at the morning kickoff in Central Park. Drop by to check out all the hands-on science fun with Explorit!

This year’s Tour de Cluck begins at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6 in Central Park where ticket-holders can check in, get their route maps and armbands, participate in a silent auction and visit the Crowers on the Green. The tour begins at 10:00 a.m. Participants can visit all the stops along the route between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. by bike or car.

Then the route ends at Cesar Chavez Elementary at 3:00 p.m. in time for their Fiesta. Tickets to Tour de Cluck are $15/person, children 10 and under are free. Get your tickets online at www.tourdecluck.org.
