Up and Away: Drones and Aerial Photography

This article appeared in the November 13, 2015 edition of the Davis Enterprise.

Special to the Enterprise

Join us for the next exciting installment in Explorit’s lecture series, “Taking Off with Drones”, a free lecture and demonstration on Thursday, November 19, 7:00 p.m. at the DMG Mori Auditorium, 3805 Faraday Ave. in Davis. View the world from a new perspective as we experience images and video taken by airborne cameras during flight.

Abbe Lyle and Thomas Barlett of Image in Flight will share their stories to show the various applications that benefit from this new technology. They will explain the importance of safety and the constantly changing regulations surrounding UAV use and open your mind to the artistic side of science, technology, engineering and math.

Abbe is Creative Director and Pilot for Image in Flight. She has been a professional photographer and creative writer for over 20 years, and has taught corporate groups and individuals in the art of still, aerial and infrared photography, and how to process using Lightroom and Photoshop.

Abbe is a private pilot, and most of all, an advocate for the safe use of drones as a form of creative expression. She has been consulting with some of the industry leaders in drone technology, and instructing on safe drone flight and how to capture optimum images from the sky. She also teaches a Maine Media Workshop in Rockport, Maine.

Thomas Bartlett is the CEO and founder of Image in Flight. He received his Commercial Pilot rating from Sierra Academy of Aeronautics and has been an avid RC enthusiast for over 30 years.

Thomas has spent 20+ years in sales and marketing, working with some of the world’s most notable brands on creative promotional campaigns. Thomas’s passions for flying, sales and working with customers to realize their goals all converged when he started Image in Flight. When not flying, he can be found at the lake with his lovely wife Britney and their dog Zeus.

You will not want to miss this very special event where a drone will be given as a door prize following the presentation!
