The Microscopic World
This was part of an eight week public program of hands-on activities which we call "explorits".
Explorits encourage inquiry, investigation and experimentation.
They are designed to use the "stuff" of science but to be unintimidating and to include much everyday "stuff" also. |

Although we are an interactive, hands-on place we recognize that people of all ages learn in many different ways. Therefore we often put out some traditional "objects" that are just for looking at.
Here the "objects" are antique microscopes that teach the observant visitor a great deal even without the opportunity to handle them.
The microscopes pictured here were borrowed for that program.

This "explorit", typically inviting minimally directed involvement in an open-ended activity, allowed visitors to make their own microscope slide preparations and examine them with a regular binocular microscope.
