Ball-python500x375

Ball Python   "Connie"
Scientific name: Python regius
Habitat: Forest edges in areas of Central and Western Africa
Time at Explorit: 3-4 years

Connie was rescued from a pet shop after the police confiscated the animals because of neglect. She was donated to Explorit through the Northern Herpetological Society. Ball pythons are very gentle creatures with few defense mechanisms. This is perhaps why they are the most frequently sold reptiles in the world. Much like the millipedes when threatened they curl into a tight ball, their head tucked firmly in the middle. Their coloration also acts as camouflage as they make their way along the ground or through trees. They are equally comfortable in both places.
