Meet Explorit's Residents
February 2006
by Jonathan Bell, Education Specialist

Explorit's animals are an important part of the permanent exhibits. Through observation and occasional handling, visitors to Explorit and participants in Explorit's programs have the opportunity encounter animals sometimes perceived as "gross" or "scary." Through these interactions many misconceptions may be broken and general empathy for animals can increase. Appreciation for these animals' important roles in different ecosystems may also heighten awareness about the importance of environmental preservation.

Animals fill the world around us. Through increased understanding and awareness Explorit hopes to promote protection for animals and the habitats in which they live. Below you will find descriptions of the animals currently living at Explorit. If you haven't had a chance to visit them lately, you might be surprised to see how much they've changed, or how much they might change you.
