Otto Hahn (Chemistry)
Birthday: 1879, Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany
Otto Hahn prepared at first for a career as an architect but
then became intensely interested in chemistry. He studied radiochemistry in
London in 1904. Returning in 1906 to Germany he was joined in his research by
Lise Meitner (November 7). His work on radioactivity during the next 30 years
led to the realization that nuclear fission was possible. He won the 1944 Nobel
Prize for Chemistry.
