Simon Newcomb (Mathematics, Astronomy)

Simon Newcomb was first a school-teacher and later a professor
of mathematics and astronomy at Johns Hopkins University. He made major
contributions to the understanding of the movements Moon and the planets. He
researched historical records of the Moon's movements since 1675, and improved
the tables of positions for the Sun's eight known planets.
