Joseph Dalton Hooker (Botany)

Joseph Dalton Hooker was assistant surgeon and naturalist on
the H.M.S. Erebus and Terror expedition to Antarctica in 1839-43. He later
collected plants in Bengal, Nepal, Assam, Syria, Palestine, Morocco, and the
Western US. He developed London's Kew Gardens (established by his father) into
an international center for botanic research.
