Valdemar Poulsen (Invention)
Birthday 1869: Copenhagen, Denmark
Valdemar Poulsen was a technical advisor to the Copenhagen Telephone Company. He wrote about telephony and telegraphy but is best known for his invention of an audio recording device which recorded sound as variations in the magnetic field along a metal wire. This was an interesting technological advance but the sound quality was inferior to Edison's gramophone.
