Henry Cavendish, nephew of the 3rd Duke of Devonshire, attended Cambridge but took no degree. His experiments in electricity anticipated much of what would be discovered in the next 50 years. He demonstrated the existence of hydrogen in the atmosphere, and determined the density of Earth. He is commemorated by the renowned Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge.
