Teach Science!

Join the team at Explorit Science Center, a non-profit, hands-on science museum located in Davis, serving children and their families through travelling programs, birthday parties, school field trips and exhibitions. Explorit's mission is "to involve people in science experiences that touch our lives."

Explorit is seeking an outgoing, energetic science "Exhibit Interpreter / Education Specialist" for the following programs:

•  Museum Hours: Facilitate visitor interaction with Explorit's hands-on, thematic exhibitions.   From astronomy to zoology, help Explorit engage people of all ages in science fun!

•  School and Group Programs: Present programs on a variety of topics from animals to energy using hands-on materials to stimulate students' curiosity and investigation skills.   Programs take place at both of Explorit's sites in Davis and at area schools throughout Yolo and the 13 surrounding counties.

Position details: Exhibit Interpreter/Educator needed, 20 - 40 hrs/wk. Responsibilities may include a combination of the above and other programs. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are a must. Teaching experience, in either a formal or an informal environment, and excellent people skills are required.  A science background and/or theater experience is desired. The position is available immediately. Open until filled.

Volunteer positions available – ongoing –

Skilled Craftspersons/Tinkerers
Explorit is looking for one or more volunteers to work - with guidance from staff - on exhibit fabrication. Skill set would ideally include: cabinetry, metal work, electronics, etc. Work would need to occur off-site using your own tools/machines. Explorit Store (Gift Shop) Volunteer
Explorit's volunteer-run Gift Shop / Store is in urgent need of adult, store-team members able to schedule an hour or so each week to help run the store.

The Store Team works in 4 sub-teams with the following responsibilities:

1. Selecting stock by scrutinizing catalogs and making out lists of proposed items to be ordered.
2. Creating Purchase Orders from existing FileMaker pro templates - about once a month.
3. Unpacking orders, logging-in and price-labeling the arrivals, and storing them on the storage shelves.
4. Regularly assessing the appearance of the store and tidying and re-stocking the shelves.
